Easter in the Wilderness

Over the Easter break, whilst many teenagers were tucking into innumerable chocolate treats, Venture Mòr ran its third Wilderness Therapy programme. Three weeks of spring weather brought snow, rain, sleet and sun in almost equal measure.

A group of teens arrived in Stirling from across the UK to embark on three weeks of intensive group work and individual therapy.

Venture Mor‘s intensive wilderness therapy programme is aimed at young adults from across the UK, struggling with challenges of transition to adulthood. The issues they face could be anything from parental break-up, bereavement, trauma, anxiety and depression, disengagement from education or many other responses to difficult experiences during the tricky transition between adolescence and adulthood.

The routes for the latest programme included sections in Knoydart, Skye and Lochaber with climbing, abseils, cave exploration and sea swimming all punctuating their journey. There are no words adequate to describe the relational and emotional process that occurs along the way. Except to say that, the opportunities for exploring, for wondering, for considering how things have been and how they might be different, when facilitated sensitively and courageously can offer the space necessary for profound reflection.

Our programme is the UK’s leading wilderness therapy programme for young people (aged between 14-18).

The three week programme consists of intensive and immersive psychological support and experiential learning opportunities through wild-country expeditions over some of the UK’s most remote and challenging terrain. This blend of resources, programme design and environment form a compelling base for self-reflection, strategy building and commitment to positive change.

Future programmes are already attracting interest from parents and family members of young adults who have tried traditional therapeutic support (counselling, psychotherapy, CBT, CAMHS, medication options etc.) but have not been able to make the changes they were hoping for.

The next programmes are scheduled for:

8 – 21 July 2018 and 5 – 25 August 2018
